Why We Built Pure Invoices: The Price of Complexity - Pure Invoices

I was tired of greedy software, 4x price hikes, and features I never asked for. So I built the antidote.

I didn’t start Pure Invoices because I wanted to run a software company. I started it because I was angry.

For years, I used a popular invoicing platform to run my local business. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked. Then, one day, I got the email. The price was going up—by 400%.

Why? Had they made invoicing 4x faster? Had they made it 4x easier for my clients to pay?

No. They had added “Business Financing.” They had added complex payroll features I didn’t need. They had decided that to use their mobile app and their web app, I had to pay extra. They were pivoting, and I was footing the bill.

That was the final straw.

The Betrayal of “Feature Bloat”

When software companies get too big, they stop solving your problem and start solving their own revenue problem.

They add loans, credit cards, and complex accounting suites not because you need them, but because it allows them to charge you more. Worse, offering “business loans” usually means they are analyzing your private transaction data to underwrite those loans.

It felt greedy. It felt shady. And frankly, it felt like a betrayal.

The “Pure” Promise

I decided to build the antidote. I wanted a tool that did one thing exceptionally well: Help you get paid.

Pure Invoices is built on a different philosophy:

1. Honest Pricing

We don’t hide our pricing behind a “Contact Sales” button or a forced signup. We don’t offer a “Free Tier” that limits you to 1 invoice just to trick you into creating an account. Our business model is transparent because we have nothing to hide.

2. No “Fake” Value

We will never add a feature just to justify a price hike. If we build something, it’s because it makes the invoicing experience simpler, faster, or better for you. We aren’t going to pivot into business loans or sell your data to banks.

3. Relief, Not Complexity

When you send an invoice with us, I want you to feel one specific emotion: Relief.

Relief that it took 30 seconds. Relief that it looks professional. Relief that you didn’t have to navigate a maze of upsells just to send a bill.

Our Vision for the Future

We are building quickly, but we are building carefully. As we grow, we will add features—but only the ones that matter to you.

  • We will listen to user feedback.
  • We will improve the core invoicing experience.
  • We will refuse to build anything that doesn’t directly help a freelancer or local pro get paid.

If you are tired of software that treats you like a revenue stream instead of a customer, give Pure Invoices a try. It’s simple, it’s honest, and it works.
