Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 24, 2026

At Pure Invoices, we believe privacy should be simple and transparent. This policy outlines exactly what data we collect, where it lives, and how we treat the sensitive information you trust us with.

1. The Two Types of Data We Handle

To provide our invoicing service, we handle two distinct categories of data:

A. Your Account Data (You are the Controller)

Information about you (the freelancer/business owner):

  • Identity: Name and Email address (managed via Descope).
  • Business Profile: Your logo, business address, and phone number.
  • Payment Links: The public URLs to your Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, etc.
  • Billing Info: If you upgrade to a paid plan, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your credit card details. We never see or store your credit card number.

B. Your Client Data (We are the Processor)

Information about your clients that you enter into invoices:

  • Client Names, Emails, and Addresses.
  • Project descriptions and line item costs.

Crucial Distinction: You act as the "Data Controller" for this information. We act as the "Data Processor." We store this data solely to generate and display your invoices. We do not use your clients' data for marketing, nor do we sell it.

2. Public Invoice Links ("Magic Links")

When you create an invoice, we generate a unique, secure URL (a "Magic Link").

  • Visibility: Anyone with the link can view the invoice. This is by design, so you can easily share it via email or text.
  • Indexing: We configure these pages to instruct search engines (like Google) not to index them. However, if you post a link on a public website, we cannot guarantee it won't be discovered.
  • Security: The URLs use cryptographically random IDs that are effectively impossible to guess.

3. How We Process Payments

We pride ourselves on not touching your invoice money.

  • Direct Payments: When your client pays an invoice, they click a link that takes them directly to your payment provider (e.g., Venmo App, PayPal.com).
  • No Transaction Fees: Since the transaction happens off our platform, we take 0% fees and have no visibility into the transaction status or banking details of your clients.

4. Third-Party Sub-processors

We use a select group of trusted infrastructure providers to run Pure Invoices. Your data is stored and processed in the United States.

Service Type Purpose
Cloud Database Provider Database & File Storage (Encrypted at rest).
Hosting & Edge Network Web Hosting & Global Delivery.
Authentication Provider Secure Login & Identity Management.
Email Delivery Service Transactional Emails (e.g., "Invoice Sent" notifications).
Payment Processor Processing subscriptions for "Pure Invoices Pro".
Web Analytics Anonymized usage statistics to help us improve the app.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

  • snapshots: Our "Snapshot Engine" creates a permanent record of every invoice sent. This is a feature to ensure legal and historical accuracy.
  • Deletion: You can delete a client or invoice at any time. However, due to the nature of database backups, residual copies may exist in our secure backups for up to 30 days before being completely overwritten.
